Early Childhood Australia state branches
web_15.jpg Early Childhood Australia has branches in each state and territory.

The branches are an integral part of the organisation; they help identify issues and priorities for state and national action, and influence position statements concerning young children.

Branches are a great source of professional support for Early Childhood Australia members, with great networking opportunities.

Influencing position statements...
Branches play a major role in Early Childhood Australia’s position statement development process, as members of national position statement working parties or by taking carriage of a particular position statement area.

Currently, national working parties, comprised of representatives from all Early Childhood Australia branches, are working on the position statement areas listed below. Drafts of these position statements will be taken to the next National Council meeting for discussion and, if endorsed, will become official Early Childhood Australia position statements.

The following position statement areas are currently being drafted:

  • Educational assessment for children aged up to eight years
  • Environmental education
  • In-home and family day care
  • Family-friendly work practices
  • First-language maintenance
  • Gender equity
  • Managing transitions
  • Resiliency

Identifying issues and priorities...

Branches also elect members to represent them at a national level — ensuring that the organisation stays informed on issues of national importance. This provides members with the opportunity to inform and influence the direction and focus of the national body of Early Childhood Australia.

Each of the branches publishes a regular member newsletter focusing on local initiatives, as well as issues of national importance.

Each Early Childhood Australia branch elects:

  • four delegates to the Annual National Council Meeting
  • one delegate to the National Board of Directors.
