| The National Council is responsible for: |

- establishing the strategic direction of Early Childhood Australia
- developing and endorsing the position statements which govern Early Childhood Australia's advocacy work
- enabling members to share and debate information about issues for children.
The Early Childhood Australia National Council meets annually. All branches have an equal number of votes and may be represented by up to five delegates, one of whom is a member of the National Board of Directors.

- the National President, who chairs the meeting
- the Deputy National President
- the Treasurer
- the National Directors
- the ECA Branches, who as members of the ECA National Organisation may have four delegates at the Council meeting
In Attendance:
- The chair of the Publications Committee
- The Chief Executive Officer
- Other staff of National Office as required
- Observers as agreed by the meeting
- Any invited guests
In Addition:
The Early Childhood Australia National Council meets annually.
The National President and the Deputy National President and the Treasurer are elected at the Annual General Meeting. The length of their terms are specified in the Early Childhood Australia Constitution.
