Do you wish to be a member of the ECA Publications Committee?
The publications program is a vital part of ECA and is dependent on the voluntary contribution of early childhood professionals. ECA is calling for expressions of interest for a member to join the ECA Publications Committee. We are looking for a person who:
- is committed to the aims of ECA
- has broad knowledge in early childhood and expert knowledge in a particular field or developmental area of early childhood
- has good networks among childhood professionals.

The Early Childhood Australia Publications Committee:
- ensures that the Early Childhood Australia publications program meets its advocacy mandate: to publish resources that support those who are responsible for the growth and development of young children
- ensures that books published by Early Childhood Australia are relevant and of the highest quality
- oversees the Quality Assurance guarantee that underwrites Early Childhood Australia's publications program, including:
- the peer review process applied to Early Childhood Australia publications and other resources
- the quality of the Early Childhood Australia website
- the review and approval of publications that are on-sold by Early Childhood Australia.
Early Childhood Australia's Quality Assurance criteria
The criteria that apply to publications recommended for on-selling by Early Childhood Australia cover:
- quality and presentation of publication
- accuracy of information
- relevancy to Early Childhood Australia
- acknowledgement of multidimensional perspectives
- inclusiveness, diversity, equity and justice
- background of author
- referencing (if appropriate)
- currency
- readability for its intended audience.

Do you wish to be a member of the ECA Publications Committee?
The membership of the publication committee of the ECA reflects the need to support and enhance the work and aims of the ECA publication program. This includes ensuring that:
- ECA publications are consistent with the aims and role of the organisation
- ECA publication proposals meet the needs and standards of ECA and customers (including the community) in style, content, demand and timeliness
- ECA publications are presented in a high quality format
- ECA publications are marketed efficiently and effectively, including the use of appropriate advertising and sponsorship
- ECA responds to developing publishing technology and in particular the use of the world wide web
- ECA publications are financially viable, except where a decision is made that the organisation should underwrite them for organisational reasons agreed by executive.
Requirements for membership of the publications committee
The publications program is a vital part of ECA and is dependent on the voluntary contribution of early childhood professionals.
- Membership includes attendance of three meetings per year, held for two days during the week
- Membership must encompass broadly based knowledge of early childhood, including infancy, the toddler and preschool years and early years of school
- Experience of members should include published writing
- Members demonstrate a willingness to commit time to the role
- Members demonstrate experience and knowledge in print and online publishing and marketing is desirable
- Committee members must be or become an individual member of ECA.
The position is available for one year in the first instance with the possibility of continuing.
Criteria for membership of the ECA publications committee
Essential Criteria
- A commitment to the aims of ECA
- A willingness to commit time to the committee membership role
- A broadly based knowledge of early childhood and expert knowledge of a particular field or developmental area of early childhood
- Ability to work effectively in a committee, staff, community and other organisations
- Experience and knowledge in writing for publication
- Competent with the use of email and Microsoft Office.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in marketing of publications
- Experience in publishing
- Ability to build links with writers in different areas of early childhood knowledge
- Skills and experience in publishing online
