Talk presented at Early Childhood Australia's Biennial conference, ‘Children – The core of society'. Hobart, July 2003
Underpinning all early childhood practice is the view that practitioners hold of children. Our view of them as human beings or only as human becomings, as people who are already vibrant and interactive or as only 'adults-in-waiting' permeates both our programming decisions and responses to children's emotional and behavioural needs. It flavours our interpretations of their actions, and dictates whether we respond to disruptive behaviour by teaching or by attempting to control the children.
