Teaching Australia – Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership was launched on 5 December 2005 as the peak national body for the teaching profession.
Teaching Australia seeks to work closely with teachers and principals around Australia in activities designed to support and advance quality teaching and school leadership and promote the standing of the teaching profession.
Formerly known as the National Institute for Quality Teaching and School Leadership (NIQTSL), Teaching Australia recognises the central role that quality teaching and school leadership play in school achievement and gives the profession a new national forum for influencing education policy.
Teaching Australia is fully funded by the Australian Government, which has committed $30 million over four years. Its directions and activities will be shaped by a board of directors drawn mainly from principals' and teachers' professional associations.
See the Teaching Australia website http://www.teachingaustralia.edu.au/ for more information about the organisation and its work.
