During holidays, children use the internet much more frequently. Accordingly, parents and carers need to be extra vigilant and stay aware of the dangers that exist specifically at Christmas time.
Holiday hotspots
Important issues to consider, especially during the holiday season, include:
- the availability of new technology
- greater access time
- new commercial and marketing pressures
- greater ease of online purchasing
- more mobile devices
- faster internet connections.
Helping children stay safe
There are lots of easy things you can do to make children's access safer.
- Educate children on online risks and teach them how to stay safe.
- Set house rules.
- Make sure you're aware of the internet capabilities of new technology.
- Spend time online with children: sending e-cards, researching festivals around the world or locating local events.
