Early childhood news

Education and Care Services National Regulations now available

Access the final draft of the Education and Care Services National Regulations 2011; now available on the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) website.

Australia takes the next big step towards a national system for education and care services

In this media release, the Minister for Child Care, Kate Ellis, welcomes the agreement of all State and Territory Governments to Australia’s first national regulatory system for early childhood education and care services, and announces that the Australian Government ‘has committed an additional $2 million to print and distribute a comprehensive set of supporting materials for child care centres to assist with the harmonisation of regulations’.

Early childhood collaboration a success

This article talks about the creation of a new set of resources—thanks to a working collaboration between various institutions and community stakeholders—aimed at supporting educators to upgrade their professional skills and work towards the government’s commitment to ensure every child in Australia has access to quality childcare.

National Quality Framework resources

The Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) offers a collection of free resources designed to assist early childhood education and care services to understand and implement the National Quality Framework. Find the growing list of resources on the right-hand side of the resources page on the ACECQA website.

National Children’s Week 22–30 October

Children's Week celebrates the right of children to enjoy childhood. It is also a time for children to demonstrate their talents, skills and abilities. A diverse range of events and activities are organised at National, State and Local levels. These focus the attention of the wider community on children, their needs and achievements. Why not find out what’s on in your area and get involved?

Anti-poverty Week 16–22 October

Anti-poverty week aims to strengthen public understanding of the causes and consequences of poverty and hardship around the world and in Australia; and to encourage research, discussion and action to address these problems, including action by individuals, communities, organisations and governments. To find out more about Anti-poverty week and to get involved, visit www.antipovertyweek.org.au.

Foundations magazine—September issue out now

The September issue of Foundations magazine is now available for free download on the Hunter Institute of Mental Health website. This issue focuses on attachment between babies and their caregivers. C&K 2012 Early Childhood Conference—call for papers

The call for papers is now open for the C&K 2012 Early Childhood Conference—Children’s Right to Childhood. The conference will entertain four strands: children’s rights to play; children’s rights to inclusive environments; children’s rights to quality programs; and children’s rights to childhood and to be a child.

Quality–assured early childhood resources

All of ECA's publications are peer-reviewed by early childhood experts, so you can be assured that all our publications are of the highest quality, and relevant to you and your work. Here are some suggestions from the latest ECA Book Catalogue.

Parent-friendly early learning: Tips and strategies for working well with families

This practical resource will support educators to create a climate of partnership with parents, avoid problems and handle any conflicts which emerge. Includes detailed real-life scenarios in a user-friendly format, making it a great book for beginning educators and experienced professionals alike.

Promoting social success: A curriculum for children with special needs

This curriculum has been a success with primary school children with mild to moderate disabilities and their peers; they learn the concepts behind appropriate social behaviour, rather than simply a set of specific behaviours to replicate.

Active for life: Developmentally appropriate movement programs for young children

Unlocking children's movement potential will inspire a love for physical activity for years to come. This book guides early childhood educators in what high-quality movement programs should include.
