About young children
Framing early childhood development
How do the public and policymakers view child development? Many do not have a clear understanding; they see it as a closed, private system. But children are a public responsibility. This article focuses on how these assumptions get formed, and how we can all help to reframe the public's view of child development.
Early childhood developmental assets framework
This article goes beyond the developmental norm to look at broad assets for kids to develop. Developmental assets are the essential ingredients of development that research shows are crucial for young children's healthy and positive growth and directly promote the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of young children.
Problem-solving and mastery
As kids are guided in problem-solving and mastering new skills, their confidence and self-esteem grows. The links on this page looks at ways to support children's natural drive to learn more and more about the world around them.
Ethics
Code of Ethics Agenda
Early Childhood Australia's Code of Ethics was groundbreaking work when it was first developed over 10 years ago. The Code of Ethics Agenda was put in place to revisit the Code of Ethics. The Agenda timeline has now been extended to allow the National Reference Group to meet in early 2006 to assess the overwhelming response from early childhood practitioners at the recent Early Childhood Australia Biennial Conference.
Code of Ethics literature review
As part of the Early Childhood Australia Code of Ethics Agenda, Kerry Dally undertook this review of the literature surrounding the issue of ethics in early childhood education and care. In her review, Kerry poses questions such as ‘What is a code of ethics for?' and ‘How should it look?'.
