For early childhood students...

Early Childhood Australia has negotiated a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Thomson Education Direct, a world leader in the provision of distance education courses.

As a result of this MOU, Thomson students who are studying for certificate and diploma courses in children’s services will receive a subscription to the ECA Everyday Learning Series, and ECA WebWatch fortnightly. Negotiations are underway for Thomson Education Direct children’s services students to become student members of Early Childhood Australia.

The following links will provide Thomson and other students studying Care for Babies at a Certificate III level with quality-assured information to complete that unit.

Good luck!

This section of ECA’s Supporting Best Practice web directory will support Cert III students in their studies regarding the care and education of infants – specifically, the first 12 months of their lives.

Policy brief on literacy (PDF)
This is an excellent article: 'Children construct their learning and develop their initiative, their curiosity, their inventiveness, and confidence in themselves. They create a community in which they can give and receive ideas, suggestions, and rules—dispositions that will be useful throughout their lives.'

The birds and their nests project
This article discusses a project about birds and their nests undertaken by 3- to 5-year-olds. After a description of the center and the goal of the project, the three phases of the project are presented. Reflections of the teachers and photographs taken for documenting the project are also included.

How to grow leadership competencies
'To learn a new skill, you need the opportunity to practice. For leaders, however, the connection between needed skills and how to learn them is often unclear.' This Model of Leader Competencies is designed to 'help leaders see the broad repertoire of knowledge, skills and abilities needed to be effective'.
