The recent tsunami has had a profound, direct effect on the southern Asia region, as well as causing grief and distress all around the world.
Early Childhood Australia urges the public to support the innumerable children who have been affected by this natural disaster. There are many aid agencies who have set up tsunami relief funds. A comprehensive list can be found at: http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200412/s1273434.htm.
One agency, Save the Children, is a nonprofit organisation who focus specifically on assisting children throughout the world. Further information can be found at: http://www.savethechildren.org.au/ (Aus) and http://www.savethechildren.org/ (US). It is also important to consider the effect that the tsunami has upon both young children in Australia and yourself. Children react to images and stories they see and also to parents' and caregivers' feelings of anxiety or stress: Click here for some helpful information on how you can support children through this time.
