On 14 December, the Australian Labor Party announced its new shadow ministers, Parliamentary secretaries and whips, led by Kevin Rudd.

New shadow ministers

The following shadow ministers and their portfolios are most relevant to the early childhood field:
  • Jenny Macklin—Families and Community Services, Indigenous Affairs and Reconciliation
  • Stephen Smith—Education and Training
  • Tanya Plibersek—Human Services, Housing, Youth and Women
  • Nicola Roxon—Health
  • Peter Garrett—Climate Change, Environment and Heritage, Arts
  • Laurie Ferguson—Multicultural Affairs, Urban Development and Consumer Affairs.

  • Mal Brough—Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs
