life at 1 is the first installment of an Australian documentary that examines the development of children by recording the experience of 11 babies and their families for seven years, or longer.

The life at 1 documentary will be screened on ABC2:
- 21 January, 7pm and 9.30pm
- 28 January, 7pm and 9.30pm

Research details
life at 1 is based on the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children, run by the Australian Institute of Family Studies. This study is researching the experiences of 10,000 children, age one to four, growing up in Australia.

Early Childhood Australia involvement
Margaret Sims, a member of the editorial committee of the Australian Journal of Early Childhood published by Early Childhood Australia, was involved in the filming of the second episode of life at 1. This episode deals with the effects of stress on young children, a topic related to Sims' research.
