Australian school communities are full of committed people using their knowledge and skills, and large measures of imagination, ingenuity and resourcefulness to make schools better places in which to learn and develop.
In order to celebrate the achievements of these people, the National Institute for Quality Teaching and School Leadership is inviting nominations for the 2005 National Awards for Quality Schooling, for which the Australian Government is providing over $1 million in prize money.
Nominations are now open!
The awards are open to teachers, principals, support staff and schools in the early childhood field (government and non-government), with prizes for both individuals and schools.
The awards are of immense value in building a better understanding and greater appreciation in the wider community of the work done in Australian schools. They are also a way of sharing good ideas and practices, like those of last year's award winners from the early childhood sector:
Ms Janet McLean, a teacher at Yarralea Children's Centre, Victoria, was highly commended for her success in using storytelling and story writing to improve social competencies, literacy and lateral thinking.
Callington Kindergarten, South Australia, was highly commended for its project learning initiative, implemented in partnership with the Monarto Zoological Park . Children participated in research activities which focused on literacy, numeracy and multiculturalism.
