As part of National Literacy and Numeracy Week 2006, the Minister for Education, Science and Training, Julie Bishop, has launched the Minister's Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Literacy and/or Numeracy 2006.

About the awards

Up to 5 awards of $10,000 each will be offered for individuals who have made a major contribution to literacy and/or numeracy learning outcomes.

The awards provide recipients with the recognition and support that will allow them to continue and/or enhance their work. Award recipients will be announced during National Literacy and Numeracy Week, 28 August to 3 September 2006.

Nomination forms are available from the National Literacy and Numeracy Week 2006 website: www.literacyandnumeracy.gov.au/2006/ministers_awards.htm

Nominations close 5pm, 27 April 2006.
