Estimated costs of education
Australian Scholarship Group has release their estimates of the expected costs now and in the future for schooling. They estimate the following costs, which will vary, depending on the choice of government, independent or private schooling:
-
Preschool – between $2,662 and $6952.
-
Primary school – between $5,317 and $12,561.
-
Secondary school – between $5,618 and $21,112.
Suggestions to minimise stress
Australian Scholarship Group have said that their estimates should not overwhelm parents and that they should plan and save sensibly so that children can receive education with minimal stress.
The group have provided several suggestions to help parents reduce stress about the cost of education, including:
-
saving weekly amounts
-
halving contributions so that families meet half of the total costs from their family’s disposable income
-
encouraging grandparents and relatives to contribute additional lump sum amounts each year
-
kicking off an education program with a lump sum amount
-
increasing contributions in line with your family's additional earnings.
