A new Australian advocacy group, the National Federation of Parents, Families and Carers, has been formed to provide a national voice for individuals and related smaller groups.

The need for representation

The National Federation of Parents, Families and Carers was created to provide a national voice in Australia for parents, families and carers and related groups. Founding members of the federation were concerned that every industry and professional interest group in the country had a national voice to speak to our governments, except families. Parents, families and carers are far and away the largest bloc of citizens, voters and consumers in the country—but they have the weakest voice.

Additionally the media does not know any household names who speak for families in the way that Bob Brown speaks for environment issues, Tim Costello speaks for poverty issues, or Bill Shorten speaks for unions.

The group's President, Jenny Shale, is an outstanding grassroots leader and inspirational speaker; a dynamic parent of a son with cerebral palsy who transformed her son’s school and community at Loganlea, on the outskirts of Brisbane.

Call for membership

The National Federation of Parents, Families and Carers is calling for individuals to join the group. Membership is free and open to parents, families and carers and support, advocacy and self-help groups.
