Increase in Child Care Tax Rebate will help all families

All families using child care will welcome the Labor Party's announcement to increase the Child Care Tax Rebate for out-of-pocket childcare expenses from 30% to 50%.

Early Childhood Australia's national president, Margaret Young, commends the decision:

The increased rebate will take the pressure off families who are finding the cost of child care an increasing burden at a time when other costs have been escalating.
'Currently, many parents use some informal, unregulated care because the cost of regulated child care is too expensive. This proposal offers parents a choice.'

Ms Young also noted the benefit of changing the payments from an annual to a quarterly basis:

'The current annual repayment creates real hardship for some families. The more regular quarterly repayment for out-of-pocket expenses, although not optimal, is better.
'Early Childhood Australia welcomes the Labor commitment to look at whether it will be possible to make this payment fortnightly.'

Early Childhood Australia looks forward to hearing the full childcare policies of both major parties.
