Early Childhood Australia has an ethical advertising policy—no advertisements for products that would be harmful to families, children and their environments will be accepted. Claims made in advertisements are the responsibility of the advertiser. Early Childhood Australia reserves the right to determine the suitability and quality of editorial and camera-ready artwork supplied by advertisers.

Early Childhood Australia’s policy position

‘Early Childhood Australia will not accept advertisements which have the potential to damage or harm, exploit or objectify children, or which are not culturally (or otherwise) respectful.’
Early Childhood Australia accepts advertising in three of its regular publications: the Every Child early childhood magazine, the Australasian Journal of Early Childhood, and Voice newsletter.

The ethical advertising standards for inclusion in these publications are outlined below.

  • Advertising will comprise no more than 25 per cent of a publication’s content (not including Early Childhood Australia promotion).
  • Advertorials are acceptable if clearly labelled as such (these are to be included in the 25 per cent advertising copy limit, as outlined above).
  • Advertised products/services must meet Australian standards (where applicable).
  • Early Childhood Australia will not advertise products/services linked with the exploitation of children or people, or which are potentially damaging to children’s health or wellbeing.
  • Early Childhood Australia will not accept advertisements which contain inappropriate images e.g. the objectification of young children etc.
  • Early Childhood Australia will only advertise medical products after an independent review by a medical expert.
  • Final acceptance is given only after the final advertisement has been submitted.
  • Claims made in advertisements are the responsibility of the advertiser. Early Childhood Australia does not necessarily endorse the products/services, or the hold the views advertised in its publications.

Early Childhood Australia makes every effort to maintain these standards.
