Under Eights Week 2008 wrap up
Thank you to everyone who participated throughout the week in 2008.
Although the week is officially over we know that there are some schools, kindergartens and childcare centres that celebrate the week at other times during the year for a number of reasons. It is this 'grass roots' nature that truly makes it a successful event. Of course we would not be able to promote the week, support the regional program and provide discount vouchers if it were not for our major sponsors and for this we are grateful. However, it is all those people who officially support the week by registering and organising events for the children and their families in the community, that ensure the week meets its objectives.
To continually publicise your support we need your feedback. Please fax the feedback form to (07) 3352 3256 or email undereightsweek@earlychildhood.org.au
Send us your stories and photos that you would like to put up on our website and printed in our newsletter. Stay tuned to this site as we post up some of the happenings of the week.
We hope you had a wonderful Under Eights Week 2008 celebrating with children in your communities.
—Under Eights Coordinating Committee
Under Eights Week
With 2008 being the Year of the Planet and our continued attention to water usage and sustainability of our world, we need to 'balance the priorities' and ensure all children's voices and needs are heard, ensuring they have a world which is just, healthy and ecologically sustainable.
Under Eights Week is an event organised annually by the Early Childhood Australia Queensland Branch through its Under Eights Week State Planning Committee. The committee is comprised of individuals who are members of Early Childhood Australia, representatives from early childhood organisations and community members concerned with the care and education of young children.
All over Queensland, schools, kindergartens, childcare centres, family day care schemes, libraries, councils and other organisations will be holding events to bring to you a fun week for children and an informative week for parents.
The Under Eights' State Planning Committee recognises the following schools and organisations for their participation in 2008. View the latest Under Eights Week 2008 events.
We also acknowledge the involvement of:
- Beaconsfield State School
- Star of the Sea Catholic School, Hughes Rd, Torquay

Our special earth
Tune: 'This old man'
Our special earth – needs our help
To stay clean and green and fresh
With a pick up, bin it – keep it litter free
We'll keep it clean – our earth family

Under Eights Week Regional Program
To highlight the theme of Under Eights Week, 'Our children, Our world, Our future', and to bring it into context, the Regional Program will look at recent events in children's lives.
Having been through both drought and pouring rain, the children will be encouraged to share some of their experiences about what it was like for them. The main focuses of the Program are to show that these are natural cycles that affect us all and that we play an important role in working with our environment.
