Routines are part of living. They provide order and help us to regulate our lives and our experiences, and to manage the complexities of living. They are important for us as adults and are important for children as well. In fact, routines weave their way through children’s lives in all the various contexts which form their experience of the world.
This book encourages all those who live and work with young children to think deeply about routines, and to see the potential and possibilities for teaching and learning in these moments that are often prime times for extending thinking, for connection, for relating, for sharing ideas and joys, and for simply being together.
