World Mental Health Day

It was World Mental Health Day yesterday, and this year's theme, 'Do you see what I see?' encouraged everyone to look at mental health in a more positive light. Support for the mental health of both adults and children doesn’t have to be confined to a single day though. It's important that the whole community recognises the part we all play in creating a mentally healthy society.

Re-imagining Childhood

As a conference filled with provocations and possibilities, Re-imagining Childhood will provide opportunities to engage with international and local leaders in early childhood. International keynote speakers include Professor Carla Rinaldi, Professor Peter Moss and Professor Gunilla Dahlberg. The conference will be held from 6–8 November 2017 at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

New resource

Child Family Community Australia has developed a resource to provide practitioners and service providers with the contact details and links to helplines and telephone counselling services for children, young people and adults. For ease of use, this practical resource groups services according to the location in which they operate.

Survey opportunity

Western Sydney University invites those who work in Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) with children living with global developmental delay or intellectual disability in Australia to complete a survey. This is an opportunity to provide your views on contemporary practice in ECI and also the impact of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Redefining a trip to the library

The First 5 Forever initiative implemented by the Palaszczuk Government in Queensland has helped introduce many families to the world of libraries and literacy. The initiative is coordinated by the State Library of Queensland and delivered through the state's network of more than 320 Queensland public libraries and Indigenous Knowledge Centres. So far more than one million participants have moved out of the library space to set up storytime sessions in mud pits, at hardware stores and parks.
