Equity in EC report

 

A new report has been released by the Front Project on the importance of equity in early childhood education. The report is an analysis of the recent AEDC report unveiling the locations and circumstances of developmentally vulnerable children around the nation. Learn more

New Mitchell Institute analysis

 

A new analysis by the Mitchell Institute shows which early childhood services across Australian electorates are most expensive, have limited access and where children are at a high developmental risk. Read the full report here

Report: Meeting skills shortages

 

A new report from the Centre for Future Work, Carmichael Centre, highlights treating ECEC as a ‘strategic industry of national importance’ instead of a ‘market’ or a ‘cost item’ in government budgets. It talks about strategies to expand the sector through an adequately funded system.

CYDA's ECEC Survey 2022

 

Children and Young People with Disability Australia has rolled out an online survey for families caring for children/young people with disabilities to understand their ECEC needs to ensure that families and children get the support they need. Participate here


In state and territory news...

 

NSW

The NSW Government invites applications for grants up to $30,000 for ECEC services impacted by major flooding in the Northern Rivers. Apply now.

 

The NSW Government has delivered its ‘Baby Bundle’—a package of essential items—to over 300,000 parents with babies born across the state over the past three years. Learn more.

 

The NSW Government is trialing a pilot program involving eight schools to determine ways of adjusting school hours to better suit the needs of students and parents. Read here.

 

Snowy Valleys Council has launched an innovative book-gifting project, which is part of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program. Under the program, every newborn child until the age of five in the area will be eligible to access the library to receive a free age-appropriate book every month. Find out more.

 

The NSW Government opens its first statewide public, purpose-built Mother and Baby Unit at Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital in Camperdown. The facility intends to keep families together when a mother requires hospitalisation for a severe perinatal mental illness.

 

 

VIC

Victoria’s State Budget 2022-23 announces investment of $217 million to ensure every family has access to a quality early learning service, closer to home, and funded universal access to kindergarten. Learn more.

 

WA

The WA 2022-23 State Budget announces substantial investments in the education sector, including investment for students with disabilities and additional learning needs, and supporting phonics skill development from Year 1. Read more.

 

Premier Mark McGowan and Education Minister Sue Ellery have launched the Premier’s Reading Challenge, encouraging young Western Australians to get reading. The challenge runs from 5 May to 9 September 2022 and is open to all students from Kindergarten to Year 10. Details here.

 

The WA Government announces recipients of the 2022 WasteSorted Schools grants and fresh funding to boost waste management activities in schools. More details to apply for the new grant can be accessed here.

 

TAS

Premier Jeremy Rockliff announces the development of Tasmania’s first Wellbeing Framework under its Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy, which is aimed at giving young people the best chance in their early years. Learn more.

 

QLD

The Coalition Government has committed $2 million for the AEIOU Foundation to expand its Townsville Centre services to provide early intervention and early childhood services for autistic children. Details here.
