ABC Kids: Exploring science content knowledge with Imagine This

Dr Kate Highfield

Dr Kate Highfield is an experienced teacher, teacher educator and researcher, working at Australian Catholic University, based in Canberra. Kate has spent over twenty five years working as a classroom teacher and as a teacher educator and researcher. Kate’s work (supported by a range of grants and partnership projects) explores effective technology integration, with a focus on potential impacts on learning (for adults and children), pedagogy and play. This work specifically focusses on the use of technology in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics (STEAM).

Dr Nij Lal

Dr Niraj (Nij) Lal just loves science – he’s practically obsessed. He did a PhD in it from the University of Cambridge in 2012 and in 2016 was named one of the ABC’s Top 5 Scientists under 40. In 2017 he started doing a bunch of science stuff on telly and radio, and now also gets to talk about it on the other side of the microphone (with kids!) as Host of Imagine This on ABC Kids Listen.

Nij is a Visiting Fellow at the ANU and the author of Henry the Flying Emu – a children’s story about gravity (told you he was obsessed), and works a day job trying to get more renewable energy into the grid.

When he’s not doing science, Nij loves exploring the ocean and the bush and playing and hanging out with his kids and trying to answer all their questions about stuff. Which kinda still is doing science. He can’t help himself.
