The information sharing schemes allow prescribed entities to share information to promote child wellbeing and safety and to assess or manage family violence risk.
Since 19 April 2021, centre-based early childhood education and care services have been designated as prescribed Information Sharing Entities (ISEs) under the Victorian Government’s information sharing schemes. This includes:
- long day care centres
- kindergartens
- before and after school hours care services.
These services are now authorised to share information with other ISEs using the:
- Child Information Sharing Scheme (CISS) to promote child wellbeing and safety
- Family Violence Information Sharing Scheme (FVISS) to assess or manage family violence risk.
View here for more information on the requirements for sharing information under CISS and FVISS.
If you receive a request from another ISE, you must share some or all information requested that meets the requirements of the schemes in a timely manner, or explain in writing why you will not share some or all of the information requested.
The child information sharing and family violence reforms build on and complement the existing frameworks to keep children safe, including the Child Safe Standards, Mandatory Reporting, Reportable Conduct, privacy law and duty of care.
You can visit the Department of Education’s PROTECT website for information on privacy and information sharing.
