Role
The role of the National Council is to set advocacy priorities and to serve as the main forum for Board consultation on matters of public policy. The National Council is an advisory body only – it may not give directions to the ECA Board.
The term of office of the National Council is specified in the Early Childhood Australia Constitution.
Meetings
National Council Meeting Participants
The National Council will comprise:
- The Board
- Four representatives from each State/Territory Committee
- Four representatives from each National Committee
The National Council will meet at least twice in each calendar year, including at least one face to face meeting. The meeting will be convened by the Board.
The Chair will preside as chairperson at National Council meetings. If the Chair is unavailable or unable to chair the meeting, the Deputy Chairperson will be the chairperson for the meeting.
Voting
A question arising at a National Council meeting is to be decided by a majority of vote of National Council members present and entitled to vote. If the votes cast on a motion are equal, the chairperson will have a casting vote.
