The Board of Directors (the ‘board’) provides governance, leadership and strategic oversight of Early Childhood Australia (ECA) which has active State and Territory Committees, 115+ employees and over 100 volunteers. ECA is a not-for-profit public company limited by guarantee, with the following purposes:

  • Championing the rights of all young children aged birth to eight years
  • Advocacy for social policy and public investment to support every child to thrive and learn
  • Reducing the number of children experiencing social, economic or educational disadvantage
  • Facilitating opportunities for transdisciplinary knowledge exchange to support continuous improvement in the efficacy and quality of services provided to young children and families
  • Maintaining and promoting a body of knowledge on early childhood development and education

There are five vacancies arising on the board this year, with four continuing Directors. Nominations are invited from eligible individuals and will be reviewed by the Recruitment and Nominations Committee who select a ‘slate’ to put forward to ECA members at the AGM. Collectively the board combines a deep understanding of early childhood policy, research and practice with skills relevant to our work. Based on the current skills mix, we encourage nominations from people who would bring the following skills:

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity & knowledge (identified board position)
  • Expertise in not-for-profit/charities law, compliance and risk management
  • Marketing expertise – particularly in relation to large events, online learning or publications
  • Systemic approaches to quality assurance, feedback and data collection
  • Social policy related to reducing vulnerability for children and families
  • Expertise in digital technology, IT systems and cyber security
